Troubleshooting: Connection Issues
Whisperer maintains a persistent connection to the server during a session. If the connection drops or cannot be established, transcription and AI responses stop. This article explains how to identify the problem and resolve it.
Symptoms of a Connection Problem
- The transcript stopped updating even though the meeting is ongoing.
- The "Ask" button is unresponsive or returns an error.
- The overlay shows a "Reconnecting…" or "Connection lost" indicator.
- The AI response froze mid-sentence and did not complete.
Step-by-Step Diagnosis
Step 1. Check Your Internet Connection
- Open a browser and visit any website.
- If the site does not load — the problem is with your internet, not Whisperer. Switch to mobile data or another network.
Step 2. Check Service Status
Visit whisperer.cc — if the site does not open, there may be a planned or unplanned outage. In this case, wait and try again later.
Step 3. Restart the Session
- Click "Stop" to end the current session.
- Wait 10–15 seconds.
- Click "Start" — the client will establish a new connection.
Step 4. Restart the Client
If restarting the session did not help:
- Fully close Whisperer (macOS: Cmd+Q; Windows: right-click the tray icon → "Exit").
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Open Whisperer again.
Step 5. Check Firewall / VPN / Proxy
A corporate firewall, VPN, or proxy server may be blocking or throttling the connection:
- VPN: temporarily disable it and check whether connectivity is restored.
- Corporate network: try with mobile data (hotspot) — if it works, the issue is corporate restrictions.
- Antivirus: make sure Whisperer is added to the exceptions list.

Common Errors
| Error | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Connection lost" during recording | Unstable Wi-Fi | Switch to a wired connection or mobile data |
| Session does not start — timeout | Server unavailable or slow response | Wait 30 seconds and try again |
| Reconnection loops indefinitely | No stable internet | Resolve the network issue |
| AI response cut off | Connection dropped mid-response | Restart the session; the partial response may have been saved to history |
What Whisperer Does Automatically
During a brief outage (up to 30 seconds) the client attempts to reconnect automatically. If the connection is restored, transcription continues from where it left off. During a prolonged outage, the session ends and data is saved (unless no-logs mode is enabled).
If Nothing Works
Contact support at support@whisperer.cc:
- Include the client version (macOS: Whisperer menu → "About"; Windows: tray → "About").
- Describe when the problem occurs and at which step.
- Specify the type of network you are using (home / corporate / mobile).
